![]() The owners of this bakery gave their pierogi a very French twist by surrounding the traditional meat filling with brioche. Here we got to try their delicious pierogi. This no-frills shop supplying traditional Jewish baked goods, sandwiches & groceries since 1946 is located in the Jewish quarter. Stop Four: Next up was Sacha Finkelsztajin. We also got two flavors of chocolate a dark ganache and a milk chocolate praline. They had every colour of the rainbow and so many flavors to choose from. Each person on the food tour got to choose a one flavor of macron. Here we at the best macrons and chocolates we have ever tasted. Stop Three: We then visited Jean-Paul Hevin, a famous award winning chocolatier in France. Highly recommend trying the socca crepe while in France! The bag of delicious crispy bites was passed around. The socca crepe was chopped up into bite sized pieces and served in a brown paper bag. It is delicious, crispy and the perfect snack. Here we tried a socca crepe which made using chickpea flour, water and salt. Stop Two: Our next visit was to Chez Alain Miam Miam located in the famous and historical market ‘Marché des Enfants Rouges’. We got to try their delicious croissant and pain au chocolate. They pride themselves on staying true to the traditions of bread making. The bakery originally opened in 1932 and has gone through generations of owners. Stop One: The first stop on the food tour was Poilane, a famous bakery in the Marais area of Paris. What should you expect on the Devour Tours ‘Paris Ultimate Food Tour’? Our guide was also very helpful and gave us tips on other restaurants to check out during our stay in Paris. As we walked from food establishment to food establishment our guide talked about the history of the area and shared stories about each food vendor we visited. We booked the Paris Ultimate Food Tour which took us through the charming Marais neighborhood. The company originally started in Spain but has since expanded to France, Portugal, Italy and England just to name a few. Devour Tours is a small tour operator that specializes in food tours across Europe. We were with another five people on our tour which kept it nice and informal and it was fun to meet and chat with other nationalities and get their views on Lisbon.We came across Devour Tours on Instagram and based on the many excellent reviews we and reasonable price we booked a tour. Also Ellis knows some good cheats for skipping the uphill bits - hidden lifts and escalators! Lisbon is built on hills and cobbled streets so expect a fair bit of walking but with regular stops it never felt like hard work. We explored a lot more of the city than we had expected and got to see a few areas we hadn’t planned or managed to fit in. The food samples were varied, delicious and easily kept us going until late afternoon so don’t worry about being hungry afterwards! We also had a few drinks along the way and learned a lot about various wines, Ports and coffees. ![]() ![]() We learned all about the food, culture and traditions of Lisbon and Portugal (who knew canned fish was so interesting) but also some of the general history too, which was fascinating. Ellis, our guide, was really knowledgeable and friendly and good fun. Having done a few food tours in various cities I can honestly say this was one of the best and most enjoyable. ![]()
